Specimen: 3 mL (2 mL min.) serum from 1 SST AND 2 mL (1 mL min.) plasma from 1 Grey Top (Sodium Fluoride) tube. Ship refrigerated or frozen AND 2 mL (1 mL min.) plasma from 1 Lavender Top (EDTA) tube. Ship refrigerated. DO NOT FREEZE.

Comment: This panel has been made on the basis of guidelines stated by National Health Mission India, 2016 for monitoring and management of Beta Thalassemia patients on chronic blood transfusion therapy.

Usage: This panel can be used for regular monitoring of Thalassemic children on chronic blood transfusion with the objectives: To ensure that pre-transfusion Hemoglobin is maintained between 9 and 10 g/dL; To detect the development of leukopenia or thrombocytopenia; To monitor iron status by measuring serum ferritin; To detect the side effects of transfusion or complications of chelation therapy early; Early detection and management of transfusion-transmitted infections.
