This test is used to diagnose and monitor a small subgroup of Carcinoid tumors (foregut Carcinoids) that produce predominately 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), but very little Serotonin and Chromogranin A. |

Patients should strictly avoid bananas, walnuts, tomatoes, pineapples, plums, gooseberries, mirabelles, melons, avocados, aubergines, kiwi fruits, and drugs like methocarbamol, mephenesin, guaifenesin, paracetamol, salicylic acid and strenuous exercise at least 48 hours before and during specimen collection. |
