Prostate health index (phi) combines three PSA forms (total PSA, free PSA, and p2PSA) into a single score. p2PSA test measures the [-2]proPSA concentration in serum, [-2]proPSA is one of the isoforms of free PSA and has been determined to be most specific to Prostate cancer. phi demonstrates a significant improvement in clinical specificity for prostate cancer detection, relative to PSA alone in men 50 years of age or older with a PSA range of 2-10 ng/mL and with non-suspicious digital rectal exam (DRE) findings. At 95% clinical sensitivity, the clinical specificity for phi is 18.2% as compared to 6.6% for percentage free PSA in the diagnostic grey zone. A low phi result indicates a lower risk of Prostate cancer, while an elevated phi result may suggest that a prostate biopsy is necessary to rule out cancer. |
