p53 is a protein present inside the nucleus of the cells that control cell division & cell death. Any mutation in the tumor suppressor gene (TP53) regulating p53, results in uncontrolled growth of cells leading to cancer. Mutations in the TP53 gene are found in more than 50% of human cancers. p53 is an important prognostic marker in various neoplastic tumors. |
