Somatostatin is a neurohormone produced in the brain, hypothalamus, and gastrointestinal tract. High concentrations are associated with Somatostatinomas occurring in the pancreas. Elevations are also seen in other Gastrointestinal endocrine secreting tumors, Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma, and Pheochromocytoma. |
