| Usage: |
This assay is considered the most reliable method to differentiate peritoneal transudate from exudate. Ascites caused by portal hypertension have a gradient greater than 1.1 g/dL (transudate) whereas ascites due to other causes have a gradient less than 1.1 g/dL (exudate). |
