CD16+56 are Natural Killer (NK) cells that play an important role in host defense against viral infections and tumor surveillance. This test helps to identify fertility problems in women and chronic viral infections such as HIV-1, CMV & HCV, etc. NK cells quantification helps in the following clinical contexts namely – primary immune deficiencies with NK cell defects; NK cell lymphocytosis; solid organ transplantation; immune reconstitution following hematopoietic cell transplantation; evaluation of NK cells in neoplasias. |
