BK Polyoma Virus (SV-40) is important in the evaluation of renal allograft biopsies as a marker of Polyomavirus infection. 1-10% of renal transplant patients on immunosuppressive therapy can suffer from BK Nephropathy and 80% of these patients lose their grafts. In bone marrow transplant recipients, the BK virus can cause hemorrhagic cystitis. |
