Hypercalcemia can be asymptomatic or can be a manifestation of serious illnesses like malignancy. Hyperparathyroidism is a frequent cause of asymptomatic hypercalcemia. Other causes of hypercalcemia are vitamin D related, associated with high bone turnover and renal failure. Vitamin D-associated hypercalcemia can be due to excessive ingestion or abnormal metabolism of the vitamin. |
