Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL) in its typical presentation expresses PML-RARA rearrangement due to translocation t(15;17), as seen in 95% of patients. These patients have a good clinical outcome on treatment with differentiation therapy comprising of all-trans retinoic acid ATRA & ATO. Early diagnosis & immediate treatment of APL is essential as it is a medical emergency that may lead to complications such as intravascular coagulation & cerebral hemorrhage. |
