SRY gene on Y chromosome instructs synthesis of Sex determining region Y protein which promotes the development of testis. Embryos with the SRY gene develop into males. Mutations in this gene result in disorders of sex development. Deletion of Yp11.3 may be related to gonadal dysgenesis or sex reversal eg. Klinefelter syndrome, Swyer syndrome, XX Male syndrome, etc. SRY gene also interacts with androgen receptors & any mutation in the gene can result in Androgen insensitivity syndrome. |
