Abnormalities of RET (Rearranged during transfection) proto-oncogene on chromosome 10q11 has been identified as the causative genetic abnormality in neoplasia such as Papillary thyroid carcinoma (10 to 20%), Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type II (MEN2), Medullary thyroid carcinoma & Lung Adenocarcinomas (1 to 2%). Patients with RET rearrangements benefit from RET kinase inhibitor therapy. This test is especially recommended in patients with lung adenocarcinoma who are negative for EGFR mutations & ALK rearrangements. |
