Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are characterized by clonal proliferation of one or more hematopoietic lineages, predominantly in the bone marrow but sometimes in the liver & spleen. The acquired mutations result in disordered hematopoiesis. There is a terminal myeloid cell expansion into the peripheral blood. MPNs include Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) – BCR-ABL1 fusion gene-positive; Chronic Neutrophilic Leukemia; Chronic Eosinophilic Leukemia; Polycythemia vera (PV) – JAK2 V617F gene-positive; Essential thrombocythemia (ET); Mastocytosis; Unclassifiable MPNs. This panel aids in the diagnosis and classification of specific MPNs in conjunction with cytogenetic testing. |
