Genomic amplification of the MYCN gene is most consistently associated with poor outcomes in Neuroblastoma cases. This proto-oncogene is detected in approximately 20% of Neuroblastoma cases and a variety of other solid tumors including 5% Medulloblastoma & Glioblastoma multiforme. MYCN amplification is linked to the undifferentiated phenotype of Neuroblastoma and associated with the aggressive disease with a poor prognosis. Detection of this aberration can be useful to stratify patients for more intensive therapy. |
