MET is a proto-oncogene located on chromosome 7 (7q31) which encodes tyrosine kinase receptors. MET amplifications are detected in various tumor types including Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) & are associated with resistance to EGFR inhibitors and shorter survival. Its overexpression is associated with disease progression. MET amplification has been reported in approximately 5% of patients not treated with EGFR-TKI and up to 20% of patients with acquired resistance to Gefitinib or Erlotinib. This test provides prognostic information & guides treatment for patients with lung, gastric & renal tumors as well as other tumor types. |
