| Usage: |
This panel offers a noninvasive test for endometriosis, useful for women with pelvic pain and/or subfertility with normal ultrasound. Endometriosis is considered a debilitating gynecological pathology with a high prevalence among young women. Endometriosis is an inflammatory disease, due to increased levels of activated macrophages and cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6). Several studies have demonstrated the utility of CA-125 for the diagnosis of endometriosis and its correlation to disease severity, especially endometriotic ovarian cysts. However, CA-125 is not specific for endometriosis but simultaneous measurement with IL-6 may improve diagnosis. |
