| Usage: | The presence of single germline SNPs like BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes increases the relative & absolute risk of developing breast cancer & other cancers. Women with this inherited mutated gene allele have a 60-80% chance of developing breast cancer & a 33% chance of developing ovarian cancer. Breast cancer developing in BRCA1 mutated patients is usually “Triple Negative” whereas BRCA2 mutated patients are usually ER-positive. This assay detects most of the mutations and insertions/deletions in the BRCA gene which is linked to breast cancer. This assay is useful for screening family members of known Breast cancer patients for predisposition. | ||||||
