Specimen: Submit formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue block. Ship at room temperature. Block should have at least 10% tumor tissue OR 3 mL (2 mL min.) whole blood from 1 Lavender top (EDTA) tube. Ship refrigerated. DO NOT FREEZE. The submitted paraffin block must have at least 10% tumor tissue.

Usage: More than 30 mutations of the BRAF gene associated with human cancers have been identified. The presence of these mutations increases tumor growth and metastasis. BRAF V600E mutation has been detected in melanomas, thyroid tumors & hairy cell leukemia. Patients exhibiting these mutations benefit from BRAF inhibitors which are extremely effective against Malignant Melanomas & thyroid cancer.
